FAIRCAR Car Rental at Keflavik Airport

Faircar operates a meet and greet policy. A team member will be waiting in the arrivals hall with a Faircar logo on a white board and will take customers to the free shuttle service that runs from the terminal to the car rental office. It takes about 5 minutes to get there. Representatives of Faircar arrive 40 minutes after each aircraft arrival and wait for customers for 20 minutes. The service is available 24/7. In the city of Keflavik there is another office that is open from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm. It is located in Hólmbergsbraut 1. Customers can pick up a vehicle at this location by simply walking in, but there is also a shuttle service that will pick up customers at their hotel or guesthouse and take them to this office.

For one-way rentals a surcharge of 50 Euros applies, when dropping off the vehicle at a location other than the original pick-up point.

The Icelandic Faircar fleet includes the Hyundai I10 and Renault Twingo, Renault Megane, Peugeot 308 station wagon, VW Caddy Camper Van and Nissan Qashqai, as well as the VW Caddy Life, which seats up to five passengers. For larger families or groups of travellers there are the Citroën C4, a 7-seater vehicle, and the VW Caravelle, a 9-seater vehicle.

Free of charge extras include navigation systems and studded winter tires (these are made available from 1st November to 15th April). Other extras include additional driver, baby and child seats, roof boxes and 3G/4G mobile internet WiFi hotspots. Customers can even rent tents and camping equipment.

Reykjavik offers visitors many museums and family entertainments, among them the Settlement Exhibition that charts the Viking Age. The centerpiece is a viking longhouse, dating to 930 to 1000 BC. It has been staged to look as if still inhabited. The exhibition is located in Aðalstraeti 16 and is open daily from 9.00 am to 6.00 pm (tel +354 411 6370).

The Saga Museum in Grandagardi 2 (tel +354 511 1517) also deals with the Viking Age, but does so with the use of waxworks exhibits. It is a fascinating place to visit as it brings the Viking period to life.
