National Museum of Iceland & Culture House

Reykjavik is home to the National Museum of Iceland, which incorporates the Culture House, a much-loved meeting point for the citizens of Iceland's capital. Displaying many exciting historic artifacts from the country's millennia-old history, the National Museum of Iceland is located at Suðurgata 41 in Reykjavik. The National Museum of Iceland is open daily from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm, except for Mondays between 16th September and 30th April. Iceland's turbulent history is charted in imaginative ways at the museum and includes much about the country's Viking past.

Not far from it is the Culture House at Hversfisgata 15 (tel +354 530 2210). It's a great place to take older children, offering a permanent art exhibition that is both fun and informative. Culture House is open from Tuesdays to Sundays from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm between 16th September and 30th April. From 1st May to 15th September Culture House's opening hours are daily from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm. Buying a ticket for the attraction also means gaining access to the National Museum of Iceland. Children under the age 18 and disabled visitors go free. Standard admission fees for adults are 2,000 ISK per person. Senior citizens and students pay 1,000 ISK. Culture House and the museum also offer visitors a café and a museum's shop, a great place to find unusual presents.
